𠇏or me to be in a position to go to again-to-again Tremendous Bowls, and earn just one of them, I feel opened up a large amount of doors,” he claims. “Now you see men like Patrick Mahomes who gained it it’s genuinely just us so significantly, but there’s far more to occur…
“What I appreciate to see is guys finding drafted early, and that a whole lot of groups these times have Black quarterbacks playing for them,” Wilson says. “It’s all throughout the league, and it’s exhibiting how the Nationwide Soccer League is starting off to evolve, alter and break down obstacles. I imagine one of the most important blessings of my profession so considerably is that I’ve been fortunate to be able to open up up doorways for some others, mainly because of what some others did for me.”
Shannon Sharpe took offense to Wilson’s responses
Wilson’s reviews didn’t sit correct with previous limited finish Shannon Sharpe. For every a transcription of Sharpe’s feedback on his podcast by Athletics Illustrated, Sharpe recommended Wilson was becoming shortsighted about his position in opening doors:
“So what purpose did Doug Williams perform? The very first African-American quarterback to essentially get to and earn the Super Bowl and get MVP,” Sharpe reported to his co-host Chad Johnson. “So what about Shack Harris? What about Joe Gilliam? So what did Marlin Briscoe did? Jack Harry? Steve McNair? They opened no doors? Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick? It was you?”
Wilson is grateful for previous San Francisco 49ers’ Colin Kaepernick
But Sharpre glossed about the credit Wilson gave previous quarterbacks and those people who played in the NFL when Wilson was younger in the league. As Wilson highlighted in a article on X, he did refer to Doug Williams. He said he was grateful for Kaepernick participating in with him in the league:
I feel about all those guys prior to me,” he suggests. 𠇋ut when I came into the league, there have been only a several of us. It was Cam Newton, Robert Griffin III, Colin Kaepernick, myself and a pair other people.”

Kaepernick actually manufactured it to the Tremendous Bowl just one calendar year prior to Wilson did. Wilson understands that background and is thankful Kaepernick served open up the doors for Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and many others.
