The Alabama Crimson Tide have undergone a significant amount of changes with their roster and the coaching staff. After losing in the College Football Playoff Semifinals to the Michigan Wolverines, coach Nick Saban announced his retirement. However, he went to the program’s annual A-Day Game and watched the glorified spring scrimmage game.
Saban spoke to reporters on Thursday morning prior to the fourth-annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast at Church of the Highlands and discussed his feelings surrounding the 2024 Alabama Crimson Tide program.
“I was encouraged. I thought the team looked well-coached. They played hard. They played with a lot of discipline. I know they got a lot of young players at some positions, so their development is going to be critical to success. I think they kept pretty good continuity through this last portal, and hopeully, they’ll add some pieces that will help them next fall.”
That is a pretty ringing endorsement for the Alabama Crimson Tide by the newest member of ESPN’s College GameDay. Only four players from the Roll Tide have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal after the spring season while adding three players. The transfer portal window closed on Tuesday night, meaning no players can enter until next season.
What should we expect out of the 2024 Alabama Crimson Tide?
The Alabama Crimson Tide made the College Football Playoffs last season and are expected to be one of the favorites to win the national championship. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Crimson Tide have the fifth-highest odds to win it all at +1400. However, they are trailing behind the Georgia Bulldogs (+320) and Texas Longhorns (+700) out of the Southeastern Conference.
With coach Kalen DeBoer has a lot of talent as they kept some solid players like quarterback Jalen Milroe and this team is going to be a legitimate contender in the conference. The reigning SEC Champions are ready to continue doing extremely well, even with a change at the top for the first time since the 2008 season.
